Most important points to consider for a valid BRG:

1. The comparison website MUST bill in the same currency as the hotel .

2. The cancellation terms must be equal or better, than the terms by the hotels.

3. The Website needs to provide INSTANT confirmation.

4. The room names should match, but if you can demonstrate, that the room is comparable, it will also work with discrepancies in the name.

5. The price difference has to be more than either USD 1 or 1% (whichever is higher).
5.b In regards to hotels located in australia and New Zealand the price difference must be greater than 3% .

Hotels for which you will get reimbursed:
(Note: There have been significant problems with getting full reimbursements from IHG, especially for reimbursements in other currencies than USD)

IC Istanbul ( BRG claim from the 17.05.2013/ "Technical Difficulties")

IC Frankfurt ( BRG claim from the 20.08.2013/ "Technical Difficulties")

The description is only "double standard" - this is the only room available on this particular date. However on other dates other rooms are available such as executive, deluxe etc having the higher rates then standard.

I may state that if it comes to arguing my point, but yes nothing to lose anyway its a flex rate.

In general, I have been successful with slight mismatches. In the many BRGs that I've done actually, I've never had an agent challenge me on room description, but maybe that's just me. It's usually some cancellation term fine print.

I am happy to report I got 2 reimbursement checks this week, each in the $400+ range, for BRG's in late June.

I had great stays too!!

I got two cheques after my trip - got home to find a $1K and a mid-200. Extremely prompt - barely two weeks passed since each stay.

Just got the formal BRG email. Been a while since I had one of these so can't recall if the following is a new stipulation.

"One free night will be given to the guest per stay and for connecting reservations made by the guest or his household members at IHG hotels within 50 miles of each other."

It is a significantly different wording than the t&c. One free night per "Connecting reservations" rules out a points night in the middle night between 2 nights at two different hotels within 50 miles. The t&c does not mention stays in this regard.

Seems like they are determined that another hotel chain will get my business that night. Weird.

Did they add a few extra bucks to cover any potential bank transaction fees and etc? or the checks were priced exactly same as the total rates you paid at hotels? Thanks.

my last check was slightly more than what I paid, not sure if this was due to exchange rates or if was to cover any fees, etc. It was maybe about 5-10% more, so I would think that it was for the exchange rates and fees.

The hotel was in France (EUR) and I am located in the US, if it matters. Pretty satisfied with the BRG at the moment.

Long time lurker / BRGer, first time poster...

I'm afraid have some bad news (for at least one property, Crowne Plaza San Pedro)

Getaroom's US site shows availability at the property when you search for San Pedro, CA.

Tried calling in a claim, BRG agent claimed she couldn't find the rate using numerous browsers, and even sent me a screenshot to that effect.

Using a Filipino proxy; the same list of area properties shows up.. However, missing the Crowne Plaza.

Hoping this geoblocking isn't the case for other properties as well. Will update after I play around with their site a little more...

Any reason there would be an issue if I can BRG a night, and book a second room the same night using points or a free night cert?

Also, if the # of kids on the reservation is lower than how many actually show up, would they have justification to cancel the free night?

It's because USD has gone up slightly against EUR at the moment. It really depending on where you live. I'm living in Sweden, so I'm totally SOL when I get reimbursement because SEK is extremely high for very long time. It stayed high since my BRGs so all the reimbursements I got lack $ + they don't reimburse fee to my bank to receive $ from them.

I think you got the answer.

About kids - the best strategy is to first check the child policy of that particular hotel through booking.com. If you have too old kids, or too many kids compared to what they allowed, go check-in yourself and then get the kids in afterwards. Make sure that you don't ask for extra beds, bring your own sleeping bed, cot etc.

Happened to me with another site too - and I even told them that I asked various FTers in various region to test it out and turned out that BRG people are the only ones that can't see the lower rate.

Hmm, so that would preclude my wife from doing 1 room via points, and me doing the second via BRG.

Strange policy, as there's no gaming going on here. Simply adding on an additional room at normal pricing levels.
