LAX-DPS best point options???
Hi, hopefully this is the right thread for this question. I'm planning a trip to Bali next summer. I am also planning to add another stop before Bali but I'm not sure what that stop is yet. I think a lot of it depends on my point booking options. Taiwan, Japan, Korea, Singapore, Oz are places we'll happily consider. I have points from Chase, Amex and lots of Alaska and ideally we'd like to fly in biz but open to any cabin class. I appreciate your insight!

No programs will have their summer of 2026 window open yet.
1) Where are you leaving from? Do you have any flexibility there? 2) How many people are going? 3) How flexible are your dates? |
The best points option for that itn would be with AS miles which allows a stop. You do any of their partners, but only one, so stop in TYO with JL, TPE with LX, SIN with SQ, HKG with CX, etc. Wanting 6/26 requires you wait until 7/25 when they will load their awards online, unless you call earlier but they probably tell you to wait. First, figure out the answers to the questions above. AMEX is no longer able to transfer to Hawaiian, then to AS, after 6/30/25. So, hopefully you have enough AS.

But if repositioning makes sense, I'm open to it. 2 parents and 2 children so 4 tickets. we can go anytime in summer so late May thru July. |

Yes, I'm aware that schedules aren't open yet this early for next summer. But starting the ground work now.

Need to be realistic with your expectations. 2 awards and 2 cash may be an option. As you have AS ff miles look at HA (owned by AS ) & FJ (OW) routes Are many airlines offering Asia-DPS short haul flights. Just get to Asia and buy 4 off cash tickets to/from DPS. No airline fly's LAX/SFO/SEA-DPS https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ngurah...tional_Airport http://www.gcmap.com/mapui?P=c%3Ablu...=bm&PW=3&DU=mi |

I'm somewhat familiar with Asia biz and how hard they are to get. This used to be easier with AA a few years ago but not anymore. And unfortunately we can't afford $6k/p or whatever it is to buy biz tix so we have to rely on points. But as mentioned, we're open to any cabin class.
what about QF? I can fly to SYD and spend a few days there then DPS. AS let you book a free stop but I've still yet to figure out how to do this with AS site as every time I do multicity, it only yields cash tix. Like many people you seem to assume SYD is the only international airport in Australia. That is untrue. FJ (partner of AS) have tended to have a little more award availability. But FJ now use AAdvantage as its freq flyer program. |

I've never done a stop with AS awards, but there are plenty of YouTube videos which will teach you how. SYD/BNE/MEL awards are very expensive and really not going to have 4 biz awards, even in their winter, our summer. Unless you're open to buying, the idea of splitting your group makes a lot of sense. Plus, the stop needs to be in the same continent so AUS is out. AS shows partner biz for 400k per person in April one way so plan accordingly.

how do you get AS to work on a multicity using for example, LAX>TPE>DPS? I can't get any point options when doing multicity for this summer for example.
As others have mentioned, there's virtually no way you're going to find four J seats on the same flight to Asia or Australia short of a miracle or an unexpected flood of availability. Four economy seats is possible but even that may require some flexibility. AS has SIN availability in Y that should pop up over the summer when the schedule opens. |
