QR duplicate booking to upgrade
My partner and I are flying a segment in economy from DOH to SGN with QR. I understand QR doesn't allow upgrades on award flight bookings but I've recently found a good avios deal in business for 50kpp on the specific segment mentioned. Because I didn't book the flight using my avios, cancelling and rebooking in the higher cabin isn't an option. I was thinking about booking the new segment through BAEC instead of QRPC to evade detection from QR's systems immediately. Obviously I'm aware this is a ticketing violation so responses to that effect would be unhelpful but I'd be very interested to hear of anyone else experience with duplicate segments on QR (esp. if you managed to get away with it!). P.s we're transiting through DOH so understand bags could be an issue but one I'm willing to bear!
Cheers,
Z

Is there a reason why you can't ask the person whose Avios were used to cancel the flight for you? I'm sure they'd appreciate getting those Avios, and taxes, refunded.

OP I was in a similar situation as you - what I did was simply cancel the original Qatar flight (in economy) and then booked myself in business class on the same flight, avoiding the duplicate ticketing issue.
Why can't you do this?
Anyways if you insist on having a duplicate ticket, maybe consider making the new booking under FirstNameMiddleName / LastName?
