Help with award trip SHA (can reposition) to west coast USA late July/early Aug

I’ve been struggling to find any decent redemption going back to the West Coast in the US. I’m currently in Shanghai, but I can reposition. The cheapest redemptions I’ve found so far have been from either Bangkok or Tokyo to SEA for 100k economy and 170k Business on United. I do have about a two week travel window from around July 26-Aug 9.

Does anyone have any recommendations/advice that I might have missed? I couldn’t find anything at all on Cathay.

I can only book on a carrier that I can transfer UR, TYP, or C1 reward points to.

Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

You are very late for booking award tickets. Anyway, wait until closer to departure and hope that award seats will be released closer to departure; no guarantee though. If you don't want to wait, grab the seats you can get.

I see this on aa.com for HND-SFO on JL's nonstop in F on August 1:

Since none of your points can be converted into AA miles, I would check availability on another JL partner which does participate with your point providers. Redemption rates and fees could be very different than what AA charges.

wow thanks for that! I did look at that route but didn’t find pricing anywhere near that. Perhaps it was snagged by someone else or perhaps you have preferred redemption rates.

in either case, I do have Asia miles. I tried to book from the Cathay site but it always gave me zero availability. I just read somewhere else that you need to find One world availability on AA or BA and then call in for the redemption so your assistance at least gave me one additional tool. Thanks again!

I suspect that someone snagged it; no preferred rates for AAdvantage redemptions as far as I know, and I was not logged in when I searched.

I would also keep an eye on JL's KIX-LAX nonstop.

Good luck!

I'm also watching JL availability close in. They reliably release new seats almost daily, which tend to disappear within about 3 hours. Separately, there is a lot of capacity between China, especially Shanghai, and Europe now. So, if you have Flying Blue or LH miles, award seats aren't hard to find.
