NYC -> ICN Biz class award - dried up?
Basically, I have Chase UR point of about 400k.
AA point of about 200K
Last year, I used UR transfer to Air Canada and booked biz class on Asiana from NYC to ICN.
I was planning to do the same for next year around same time (September).
But I noticed that the reward seats all but dried up.
I tried to look for award on KE using Virgin Atlantic but nothing there as well. I would prefer Asiana or Korean since they have non-stop from NYC to ICN.
So, is this going to be a trend? Or is this because of the merger and Korean/Asiana trying to work out reward availability?

You're trying to find award space now for travel in September of "next year" (2024)?

Yes, I know that I can't check September until September/October of this year rolls around.
I was just wondering about general availability as merger chugs along whether more or less award space will be available - looks like right now, pretty much NONE seem to be answer. And possibility of alternative. If I did not mind LONG 25+ hours travel time, looks like Ethiopia airlines is possibility through Aeroplan but was hoping for non stop or perhaps shorter layover.

Those scarce biz seats are gone as soon as the open for release at 355 or so days before the departure. And almost no chance to grab one of them unless new flights or fleet upgauge is announced. Those news spread really fast that there's only like a 2-day window before all seats are gone. If you have KE miles (not VS or DL), then the chance is much better. This is all supply and demand problem where even Y round trip to Korea these days may cost $3k or higher. These days, among Korean community, the wealth is recognized by how often this family visits Korea, not through their car or house.
