Extra luggage price in the airline vs booking.com

Hello,

I want to travel from Warsaw to Tokyo on 04.10 and go back on 24.09, and I am trying to find a relatively cheap option with Star Alliance. It seems to come down to calculating luggage prices, since I need to check-in two bags. The most obvious is travel with Lufthansa with a transfer in Frankfurt. The ticket price is ~1410 EUR with 2 bags allowance. However, there is a LOT/Asiana flight, WAW-ICH->NRT and back NRT-WAW, for which price without any bags on booking.com is ~1186 EUR. Booking.com allows for selecting 1 check-in luggage for ~90 EUR (both ways, it seems...), but does not give an option for another bag. Anyone knows, what could be the price for another bag?

I am a little bit lost with the luggage pricing, since LOT claims to charge 70 EUR for the first bag, which would be 140 EUR both ways. More expensive then on booking.com. The next bag is already 115 EUR*2=230 EUR. If I assume that I would have to pay 1186+90+230=1506 EUR, that's already significantly more expensive (for me) than the Lufthansa flight. But I am not sure about this 230 EUR. I would appreciate any help.

I would trust the LOT website over booking.com

Don't purchase checked luggage with the OTA . More expensive and you don't know if the data is transferred correctly to the airline or if the airline will honor it.

Sorry I don't have any experience with luggage fees with LOT or LH. Did you check the webpages of LOT and LH for information? It is cheaper to buy in advance on the webpage of the airline than at the airport on the day of traveling.

Did you check the fares to TYO which include checked lugage? Most likely cheaper than adding 1-2 checked bags.

Maybe it is cheaper to send or ship the luggage in advance with courier or the like ? At least for the return flight to Poland it should work OK.

Yes, I gave the prices for LOT in my first email.

Since the cheapish flight with LOT is actually LOT+Asiana, I can't check it directly on the LOT web page (or I don't know how to...). On momondo or kayak it is displayed as a one without luggage. It stops being displayed (at least in the sane prices range) when I add 2 luggage pieces requirement there. That's why I am not really certain how much LOT+Asiana flight with 2 luggage piece would cost...

As far as I remember not, and I don't want to risk late delivery. This luggage is essential for this particular trip.

I think you misunderstand. Forget about Momondo for minute.

When you search for the price for flights WAW to Tokyo on the website of LH and LOT you will find fares that includes checked luggage (i.e. not the cheapest fare). I just had a look on the LOT website and a fare to Tokyo that included 2x 23 kg is only around 60 EUR more than the cheapest LOT fare to Tokyo (so it would be around 2x 60 EUR for return flight). So buying the cheapest LOT fare with an OTA from Momondo and adding 2 pcs of checked luggage will be more expensive than buying a ticket with checked luggage directly with LOT or LH (on their website).

That's correct, but I was interested in a flight, that from WAW to NRT was through Seoul and was joined LOT+Asiana, and rather cheap. This flight is offered only through OTA, that do not give an option to buy 2 pieces of luggage. Thus I did not know, how expensive this flight would get with those 2 pieces. Maybe I was unclear in my initial question...

Anyway, I bought directly through LOT. Coming day later than I wanted, but at least I know the price.

OK - You did very well in booking directly with LOT. Your travel dates are in Sept/Oct? This far out there is a high chance of schedule change or cancellation which will be a nightmare to deal with if you had booked through an OTA like MyTrip, GoToGate, Bravofly etc which come up as the cheapest options when you search on Momondo. These OTA are to are to be avoided at all costs (you will realise that if you are forced to interact with them e.g. for schedule changes, reebookinhg etc.)
