Checked in with wrong details.

Hi everyone!

I'm in Lisbon on holiday with some friends and we are flying home tonight. Unfortunately somehow my sister's online check in got messed up through TAP Portugal's app and she checked in with wrong nationality and passport details. Coming here she flew with her national ID card and we had no problems. Now when we checked her boarding pass in the app, at details it shows her nationality as United Kingdom(we are Hungarians), she checked in with a British passport with passport numbers 11010110. We tried to cancel the check in for her to redo but we still can't change these details. I know that the easiest option would be to just go to the airport and ask them if they could fix it but we are a bit worried that it would cost a lot or we'd have to buy a new ticket for her. Has anyone been in a similar situation? What do you think, how should we proceed? Thanks for any advice.

Hi Marq1.

Sorry to hear about this. I have no experience with such a thing, but I at least wanted to reply to you to offer encouragement.

Myself, I would call the airline and explain what happened. I'd prefer to have things straightened out, or at least documented in the system, in advance of going to the airport.

I wouldn't be too concerned. Many people have multiple passports. Many more people incorrectly enter passport details. There are plenty of ways for agents to update this, if nothing else, when you arrive at the airport. If you want some peace of mind you can still try calling in advance but this should be easily sorted at the check in counter.

This is no big deal at all. Just go to the airport a few minutes earlier so a check-in agent can change it manually.

This shouldn't be an issue. I'm a dual citizen and have the enter the US on my US passport, but generally enter other countries on my other passport (Canada) unless there's weird political stuff or one visa is easier to get (when the US is not visa-free, the Visas are always super expensive). I tend to book flights under my US passport, but have my Canadian details entered at check-in either via app or at the counter.
It is absolutely no problem and literally no one will care.
