Passport stamp for US Citizens after Egates at Heathrow

Are passports required to be stamped by border control at Heathrow after using the egates for US citizens?

If you mean entering the EU the answer is yes.

No they are not stamped. Once you pass through the e-passport gates there are no further immigration checks so you are free to go.

Just used the e-gates tonight at Terminal 4 with a US Passport. There are signs saying that the passports needed to be stamped after the gates but there was no additional checkpoint and no one there, so just walked through. Was very fast and efficient!
