Indefinite delay at Heathrow: info in incoming flights?

Two 'plane-loads of Mumbai-bound passengers are waiting at Heathrow. My friend has been waiting for about 30 hours now, and the only information is that they might know something in a couple of hours. In the meantime they are being given decent food and hotel rooms, but are obviously bored and frustrated.

My friend would like to do things in London, but dare not leave the hotel in case arrangements for onward travel are made. Any suggestions? For instance, are there any online resources that might show any incoming 'planes from this airline? Or any obligation on the airline to help if a passenger misses a departure under such circumstances?

It would help to know which airline. BA or AI? Some airlines will do flight alerts via app or text. There are apps, some-free some paid, that can track flights.

Your friend should make sure the airline has their cell phone as a primary contact point.
