Help with points
 

Hey all - I am very new to this points thing and was hoping for some help. Through the last few years I've collected a whole bunch of points from many different airlines/hotel chains (listed below including number of points) and I'm looking for a way to consolidate them together/maximize what I have, especially since many of these are expiring in the next 6-12 months. Hopefully I can somehow pool these all together and stick to one main airline/rewards system (I'm American Airlines Gold Elite but don't really have a long-term preference). Don't have any trips planned but would love to travel somewhere far one day in first class (I'm in NYC for reference). Thanks very much!

Some hotel points can be moved to airline ffp's, with a loss of value.

None of your airline freq flyer program miles can be moved to another ffp.
Some ffp's allow ff miles to be moved to a family member in the same ffp for a large $ fee. But generally not worth the cost

United & Aeroplan are both Star alliance, If the ff miles were earned from flying you could have credited to 1 ffp

AS & AA are limited ff partners. Were full ff partners for many years

Having multiple ffp’s with low balances is never a good idea. You may never get enough ff miles/points to be of use before they expire. Adding frequent miles in a ff program that you can use, are worth more than ff miles in an orphan ffp that you will never use, even if the earning rate is nominally better.

Use what you can before they expire.
You will not be able to pool or consolidate effectively.

Many (not all) airline and hotel frequent-traveler programs will extend the expiration date of points/miles if there is any recent activity -- earning or redeeming.

AA, UA, and Aeroplan all permit redemptions for one-way awards, so you could conceivably use miles from one program for the outbound trip, and miles from a different program for the return. ;)
