Award flights or relatively affordable paid itineraries from Washington DC to Athens

Hi,

I apologize if this post is in the wrong forum. I'm traveling to Athens from Washington DC June 15 to 27. Most of the flights closer to $1000 are about 22 hours long. The shortest flights I could find are around 14 hours with one stop, but they are pretty expensive. I searched American Airlines and United and award flights are all around 60k+ one way for a 14 hour flight. Does anyone know a faster or cheaper way to get to Greece? I have a good amount of points with UA and Marriot.

Welcome to FT! This is the wrong forum, but eventually your post will be moved.

It's quite late to be looking for transatlantic award tickets for summer 2019 travel, though some seats at saver levels are still available. For the approximate dates that you mention, DL offers a one-way award ticket DCA-JFK-ATH on Jun 14 for 44k, and UA offers one-stop ATH-IAD via Geneva or Zurich on June 27 for 30k for a total of 74k plus reasonable fees. Taking UA round-trip on your exact dates would amount to 100k, since no saver awards to Athens are available near your preferred departure date,

Obtaining award tickets often requires flexibility

Also search paid business class. From time to time it’s available for as low as $2k round trip was to ATH.
