Transit time in Bangalore
Hello, i shall be in Bangalore for 2 hours on transit during which I change from international flight (air India) to domestic flight (Indian airlines). Provided my first flight runs on time, is the time adequate for transfer? What happens if I miss the flight due to delay by airlines? |
Is this purchased as one ticket or separate? If one ticket AI is to schedule onto the next flight with space available. If separate you're on your own to purchase a new ticket and 99 out of 100 times any flights on same ticket as the missed flight will be canceled too.
Upside is that BLR is a smaller airport. |
Correct. If these are two separate tickets you don’t have a connection, and missing the onward flight will mean having to buy a new return ticket. |
Did FRA-(LH)-BLR-(6E)-HYD last year. Planned layover was ~4h and that was plenty, even with a ~20Min delay into BLR.
BUT, 2h will be asking for it. I advise you get out of the plane as fast as possible and dont stop before being in the queue for immigrations - they ARE slow (about 20 in front of me took ~30Min with four counters open...). Also have the domestic ticket printed(!) and ready to show when changing from international to domestic. Oh, and be alert about the part that BLR domestic (and some others) are "silent" airports. Check the boards, they wont "call" for boarding over PA. |
If you are on 1 ticket there is no issue/nothing to worry about - you will ge rebooked if you miss the domestic flight.
Even if you are on 2 tickets, you should go ahead. 2 hours at BLR should be more than enough to clear immigration etc and even if you miss your domestic flight, it is not the end of the world. Just pay for the rebooking or buy a new ticket (domestic flights in India are cheap, so the financial impact will be limited). |
Thanks. Feel reassured. I bought ticket to Calcutta from AI directly, they booked me with this type of change arrangement. So I think it is one ticket. Other times I travelled by Emirates mostly or Qatar. Find that easy as Dubai and Doha not being destination countries, do not go through immigration but only security. Glad that the airport is small. I can save some time there. thank you all for your help. |
