Bogota (BOG) Airport in Colombia
Hi frequent flyers!
We are a small group of women who have a round trip flight from Los Angeles -> Bogota using Avianca. We haven't booked our domestic flight to Cartegena, but want to fly there the day we land in Bogota. What is the customs situation like? When we land, do we need to go through customs and then go through security check in again to get to our flight to Cartegena? I am wondering if security / airport personnel will let us connect to the next flight if we present a Cartegena boarding pass to our Avianca attendant, without going through security again since we technically have been checked! Any feedback appreciated so we can book our flight to Cartegena with the right time frame...thank you so much! Gracias! Angie |
Your question is probably best asked (and answered) here:
https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/south-america-483/ But if you have access to your bags in BOG, you have not "technically been checked" for your flight to CTG. |
The flight to CTG will be on a separate ticket which means AV is not required to check bags through and most likely won't unless traveling in a premium cabin. That means you'll have to do immigration and get your bags before having the rechecked which, no person experience here at BOG, means you'll have to go to a check-in desk not a transfer desk. This will require security screening.

I’m curious as to why you would book separate tickets. Unless it is massively cheaper to do so, you’ll have to build in ample time in BOG to retrieve your luggage, go through immigration, and check in again. Also, remember that on separate tickets there’s no connection protection, meaning that, if your inbound is late you may have to buy new onward tickets to CTG. |
Thanks so much!
