Best Airline for a Stop over in Europe before heading to India?

I have miles with United, AA, BA, Delta, Singapore, Alaska.
I am traveling from SFO to MAA and would like to have a stop over.
Like in the early days, we had stop over in Europe for a week.
Is there any airline, which still does stop over without spending lots of miles?
Note: Today I tried with United to book a stopover in Switzerland and it is pricing as 30k + 30k + 42.5k for a segment like this:
SFO - ZRH - 30k
ZRH- MAA - 30k
MAA - SFO - 42.5
Total = 102.5k

That's a lot of miles.
Let me know any good airlines that does stop over in Europe before heading to India?

Thanks.

I think British Airways will allow you to stopover in London.

  • Alaska allows 1 stopover on one-way awards, so you could book as two one-ways and stopover in each direction if desired.
  • Singapore allows a stopover on round trip awards.
  • Delta and AA do not allow stopovers.
  • BA prices all award flights by the segment, so you can stopover anywhere for as long as you want, but you're not getting any break in pricing. US-EU-India would be a tough award on BA anyway if you're trying to avoid fuel surcharges. I think if you could find award availability on Finnair or Iberia for US-EU, it would at least make fuel surcharges reasonable.
  • United allows stopovers via its excursionist perk feature. Put most simply, you can stopover in the same region as your destination (e.g., SFO-LHR / LHR-VIE / VIE - SFO would price as 60k in ecomony, so the LHR-VIE is free). This won't work for your situation.

Although AA does not offer any free stopovers, AA does offer both peak and off-peak SAAver awards for travel between the U.S. and Europe, depending on date of travel. Combining an off-peak U.S.-Europe SAAver award with a Europe-India SAAver award would cost just 42.5K AA miles total, a mere 2.5K miles more than U.S.-India award with no stopover.

Also, note that for travel back to SFO from India, AA now permits travel on CX via HKG as a single award (but still no stopover permitted).
