Expedia Price Problem

Hi all,
Whilst searching the t'internet for a colleague for a flight/hotel deal I've found a strange problem..selected a return flight and hotel for 2 for NYC in November 2018 which came to around £2500. Finding this quite high
I then searched and selected the exact same flight and hotel duration separately which added together came around £600 cheaper ????
It seems that when I select standard economy instead of basic economy on the flight/hotel review trip page instead of adding the £120 difference it adds several hundred more... Happens again with another hotel when selected together..

Anyone else came up with this problem ?

Tweeted Expedia about this and they say " Expedia does work off a live system receiving inventories from all our vendors. As options sell out the pricing and availability is subject to change" ???

What airline? The difference between basic economy and standard coach can vary; some carriers practice yield management and assign different fare classes instead of treating it like a seat reservation fee that's constant over various flights on the same route. In fact, I've even seen cases where basic economy is more expensive than the cheapest coach fare the airline is offering for the same flights on the same dates.

Both the Expedia price and BA price for the BA return are exactly similar when selected as a flight package only. The problem seems to be when buying the flight and hotel package together you can only select basic economy flights before moving on to the hotel selection page. Once you have selected both it then gives you the option to buy standard economy which shows an upgrade price of £120..which is exactly the same price for it on British Airways. However when you do this the overall price boosts up by £600 more instead of the £120 more for the upgrade to standard economy which is a massive difference and if someone bought this without checking the price booking seperately would pay over the odds..
