Help rerouting award - IST not giving Visa On Arrival
Hello,
I booked an all business class ticket with ANA:
SFO-AUH (stopover) Etihad - December 20
AUH-SEZ (stopover) Etihad
JNB-AUH-LAX Etihad
Unfortunately Etihad canceled the SFO-AUH route. I called up ANA and they were able to rebook:
SFO-IST (~20 stopover) Turkish Airlines - December 20
IST-AUH Etihad - December 22
Well now the ongoing visa issues means that I can either stay airside at the IST airport for almost a full day or try and rebook. Seems ANA might be able to work with me a bit by allowing me to mix partners, as it seems they were okay with me mixing Etihad and Turkish under the circumstances (we wanted to fly into AUH with Etihad to use the chauffeur service to Dubai).
We need to find a J ticket from SFO to AUH and we need to keep the departure city and date the same. Can anyone help me brainstorm options to search for?
Currently looking each day for:
SFO-MUC (Lufthansa)
SFO-FRA (Lufthansa)
SFO-ZRH (Swiss)
Then the next leg in either Lufthansa/Swiss or Etihad depending on the availability.
Are there any other routes I should consider?

Since the OP is using NH miles for the award, we'll move this thread to the NH forum.

Assuming the OP is from the US, e-visa's are not available to US passport holders due to a diplomatic spat, and from what I recall, only 10 visas/day are issued from each consulate.

Another blow is that ANA isn't booking flights with Etihad. So I'm not sure if I can connect to Etihad NRT-AUH.
The only chance is if they are allowed to do this for an existing ticket. Otherwise, it looks like your routing could work as that would give a 2hr layover in NRT.
** Update
ANA does not have access to any Etihad inventory. The only way to get to AUH is through other partners. TK does not have any availability from IST to AUH.
