Hi,
I recently bought a return flight PE from BTR to Dallas, but work came up and now I am going from Dallas to Houston on AA.

Question, if I don't get on that flight , do I forfeit my MQM, and MQD ?

You don't earn the MQM and MQD unless you take the flight.

When you fail to checkin your ticket will be cancelled. You won't earn anything.

Check out "BIS" in the glossary. Not particularly classy, but does explain things well.

Long shot, but if you have the same trip later, worth checking the change fee to see if that option could make sense.
