speeding fine WA

I have just received a speeding fine via my travel company for a speeding fine dated 24/11/15 whilst driving in WA on holiday. It is $482.35!!! could I apply by 'E' mail for leaniency due to length of time it has taken to reach me, therefore accumulating cost?

Welcome to FT!

While the name of this particular forum is "Information Desk," FlyerTalk is not a general-purpose site for general information. FT is about travel, mostly air travel, with a focus on frequent flyer programs and other topics that frequent air travelers care about. If anyone here knows anything about laws relating to Washington speeding tickets, it would be a random coincidence. You might do better asking this question in a forum whose focus area is closer to what you want to know.

(As a suggestion: you might want to browse any discussion site for a while before posting there, to get an idea of what it's about and how it's organized.)

Welcome to FT, Di Collins!

I'm assuming that you received a speeding ticket while driving a rental car while on holiday. Your question may get more responses in the Rental Car Discussion forum of FlyerTalk.

I read it as applying to Western Australia (WA).
Who sent you the ticket? Travel agent or rental car company or ??

Welcome to FT!

How does this work???

Where are you from, and what is WA (Washington, Western Australia, Wales, Wallonia)?

What might be the consequence of you just ignoring it?

If you are talking about Washington State, you'll need to request either a contested hearing
(to plead "not guilty" and fight your traffic ticket) or a mitigation hearing (to request that your fine be reduced). I don't think you can do either of these options except in person.

Take a look at the ticket for instructions on how to contact the appropriate traffic court directly; they can advise you.

It's unlikely you would get a ticket for speeding unless you were pulled over by a police officer, at least in the United States. I haven't heard of any camera based speeding tickets. Perhaps someone from Washington can confirm that is the case there.

Is this a ticket from the state or county, or a bill from the rental car company? The rental car company may well try to screw you over with their own usurious "fees."

Too many unanswered questions.

OP - Before this goes off the rails with speculation about "what might be if ...." why not provide some detail. The more detail, the better the advice.

It would be horrible to learn how to obtain clemency for a speeding ticket in WA(les) when you meant WA(shington).

Marschel Apr 17, 2016 1:37 pm

How much were you speeding? :D

Such camera-based tickets for speeding do exist in Washington.
But, as you said, too many unanswered questions from the OP.

The date format (dd-mm-yy) is not that used by most people in North Amercia. That format is commonly used in UK, Australia and many other places.
But I suspect we will never get an answer from Di Collins

And he used the word "whilst".

My feelings as well, but hopefully he'll report back.

Canadians use the correct date form as well.

Di Collins' "WA" is certainly Western Australia because the friendly cops in the USA prefer to deliver speeding tickets in person :)

Regardless of whether we hear back from this one-post wonder, his story is instructive. Australia and New Zealand have automated radar and license plate photo capabilities that can catch speeders in rental cars red-handed.

The authorities send the ticket to the rental car company. Rental car company pays and back-charges their customer's credit card. Customer is SOL. The only solution is to not speed in the first place.
