PM DL to AA? based in JFK
Hi all,
I'm currently PM in DL with over 50k MQM already for 2017 (rollover) to which I will be adding JFK-LHR-JNB r/t 18k MQM and my amex 10k MQM spend (and thus waiver) I currently hold no status on AA but saw the challenge for 12500 EQM and $200. I am travelling with AA to LAX for 5k EQM in two weeks. The rest of the year looks like: 1) Trip to EZE likely in end of April 2) Trip to LHR likely in mid March 3) Trip to HNL whenever dates are low (2nd half of the year) 4) Idem #3, to TYO (NRT? HND? via SIN?) 5) Idem #3, to AMS Facts: * AA has an upcoming devaluation we are all aware of, but DL is not getting me many upgrades on my NYC-PDX most frequent work-related route. * AA is cheaper for #1 but same price than DL for #2 * The callenge is a great opportunity to obtain status with trips I will have (#2 and LAX means 12150 EQM, almost there!) Wondering what you guys think? Should I aim for AA Platinum status? Ditch Delta's one? And stop caring about Delta's next year? Aim for both sounds risky/expensive. I used to be PDX based, that's why I was DL. Now based in JFK, even though it's DL hub, I just don't know whether to switch or not, and when to do so? Thanks a lot! EDIT: I never fly business (not even for work) unless I've exchanged RDMs. |

There are many AA vs xx and DL vs xx linked threads in post 3 of http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/infor...help-here.html With the majority of ffp's benefits are reducing and ff mile costs are going up. Upgrades are harder to get. The halcyon days of frequent flyer programs a decade ago are gone: just accept reality. The grass in not always greener on the other side |

What are your objectives with a ffp?

I was AA PM and I have to tell you getting it was damn hard, but I do like the robust options with AA out of my home base of PHL. Extremely easy to get to Europe and not so difficult to get to Asia.
JFK is more of a DAL hub in my opinion so it's probably worth it for you to go DAL. Plus you can parlay it with SPG. Hit them up for a platinum status challenge - 18 nights in 3 months. |
