Connecting flight noob advice
hello everyone
i'm new here so i hope i have put this in the right place! ok, right i have a booked connecting flight from london to new york and then vegas and i have a few questions please (as i have never done a connecting flight before) thanks so much in advance! ok so the flights are with the same airline the whole way- delta 1. do i need to collect my bags - or will they simply be transported from a-b 2. will i have to go through passport control to get to the next terminal? 3. i have to get to jfk terminal 4 to jfk terminal 2 - how long does this take rufly - is this simple and is it free to travel between terminals? 4. will 2.15 hours be enough to transfer all ok? will i need to know anything else that you might think is useful ! again thanks for your help its much appreciated! |
Welcome to FT!
These flights are on one ticket, correct? (Rather than two.) 1. Your bags will be tagged for LAS in London, but since New York is your first port of entry to the US, you'll need to collect them at JFK after immigration, and then immediately recheck them at the nearby counter. It's close-by, obvious, and simple. 2. You will need to go through passport control when you get off the aeroplane. There will be a second identity check when you go through security at the next terminal. 3. Connecting between the terminals is very simple. There is a little train connecting them. 4. Your timing should be fine. If you miss your connection, Delta will typically put you on the next flight. |
hello LondonElite!
thanks so much for your reply! and yes this is on one ticket ok sure so i will have to treat this like two seperate flights and do the baggage collecting and immigration?! thanks again - if anyone else has done this i would love to hear your experiences! |
It's rather simple and you should have plenty of time.
-Check-in and bags are tagged to LAS, board flight and enjoy. -Deboard plane and walk to immigration. -Go through immigration and then customs where you will have your bags. -Return bags to connecting flights bag drop. -Transfer using Air Train (free) from terminal 4 to terminal 2. -Go through TSA security -Board flight to LAS. |
Delta has an airside shuttle service between T2 and T4.
After rechecking your bags post custom/immigration, clear security into T4 and take shuttle to T2. |

i love being prepared for this kind of stuff so you have put my mind at ease now i have an idea! thanks again !! xx |
You are simply dropping your already checked bags after Customs. No need to recheck and thus stand in line. It may take 2-3 minutes at most and it is posted so that you cannot miss it.

Also, keep in mind you'll need to to ESTA if you're not a US Citizen or Resident and an eligible national of a Visa Waiver Program country. https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov/esta/ |
