I would double check this, but I believe MLE is part of intra-Asia for Alaska. Therefore you could use 100k AS miles for two seats in J on Cathay LAX-HKG-MLE with a stopover in HKG (and take an Alaska positioning flight to LaX if you don't live near LA). Your 60k SPG points would transfer to 75K AS points. Getting an Alaska Air credit card will bring your total to 100k (the reverse itinerary works just the same)

For the other leg of the trip, you can use 136k UR points to transfer to SQ which will get you two seats in J on the SIN-NRT-LAX route (with a position flight to your home city on Virgin America) You may be able to add an MLE-SIN segment for no additional SQ miles depending on what region Maldivres is classified in on the SQ award chart. NOTE: you must book this itinerary on the SQ website to get a 15% discount on miles (original is 160k for this itinerary)

I was considering going to MLE for my honeymoon in 2017 but after crunching numbers it just wasn't worth it, even on points (is costs $1000 for two people just to get to a resort from the Male airport!!!). One week in The Maldives, or 3 weeks in Bali/Phuket/Palawan?Kind of an easy decision for me.
