A Tricky Booking Situation
Hey Everyone! I'm new to FlyerTalk and I apologize if this isn't the correct thread to post this in but I couldn't find anything else better.
I'm trying to book a one way flight from London to Seattle on July 15th. I noticed that flights were cheaper connecting or originating in Copenhagen so I did a search of Copenhagen to Seattle. Luck would have it, I found a flight on Iberia Airlines from CPH->BCN->LHR->SEA for $755 rather than the typical $989. I'm in London right now so obviously I don't need to use the previous two legs of the trip. If I purchase the ticket and I don't check in for the previous two legs (CPH-BCN, BCN-LHR) will I be able to use the last leg from LHR to SEA? The last leg of the flight is with Iberia's partner British Airways if that makes any difference. It's not exactly hidden-city fares which is why I wanted to see if anyone else has done this or knows if it's possible to do this. Thanks for your help everyone! I greatly appreciate it. |

This is not possible, if you don't check in for your first flight, all subsequent segments will be cancelled immediately. That's why these tickets are cheaper. Have you looked at buying a return ticket and throwing away the return? That you can do, and may be cheaper anyway. |

"if you don't check in for your first flight, all subsequent segments will be cancelled immediately." Merely "checking in" is insufficient. (Many airlines permit you to check in for a flight on line, up to 24 hours before departure.) If you fail to fly any segment of a ticket, all subsequent segments will be canceled. |
Hi LondonElite! Thanks for getting back to me so quickly.
The only reason I am suspicious that it is possible to do this, is because I did something similar on Philippine Airlines back in October. I had bought a ticket from Cebu to Manila to Bangkok. I decided not to take my Cebu to Manila flight and took a flight from Dumaguette to Manila on the same airline on the same day. At the reservation desk, I simply told them to reactivate the rest of my ticket from Manila to Bangkok and I was able to continue on my way. Maybe it was an unusual circumstances but I was hoping it might work elsewhere. I have not looked into return flights since the one way tickets are pricey I figured the roundtrip tickets would be too. I'll definitely look into this. Thanks!! |

And by the way, whether you skip the last segment or try to skip the 1st ones, it is still a hidden city ticket, the same as if you bought a ticket in the reverse direction from SEA to BCN and got off in LHR.. |
Thanks Jeff for letting me know about the terminology. I wasn't to sure but now I know. Thank you!
