Help - please

Let me preface this by saying I'm not begging for flight secrets

I actually need brain cells that work - and I figured this would be the place to ask.

I booked flights with BA for April 1 and April 7 thru April 23rd. Paid around $900 each (dont hurt me)

I figured at the time, I was good on time and possibly I'd come back and Mum would be ok..(as per Dr)

Phone call 3 AM, I need flights THIS week, 23/24/25 for uh, 2 1/2 weeks? April 10?

Here is where my brain wont go, I can change with BA, they will waive the $275 change fee, but I need to come up with another $600 each,

OR -

They can do a full refund and I can book with a lower cost place (AC $1324 pp, or BookAirfare has tickets with BA/Iberia - for about $1250 each

BUT It takes 2 - 3 business days for the money to be refunded.

and the tickets will have gone up by then, and my whole family is waiting on my dates to set the date..

Help?

So what? Don't you have enough credit on your credit card(s) to purchase the new tickets now, instead of waiting until after you receive the refund of the old tickets?

Then I'm afraid you're stuck, unless you have cash in the bank and can pay cash to buy new tickets at a brick-and-mortar travel agency, or at an airline's city or airport ticket office.

So can we assume you've already asked your credit card issuer for a credit limit increase? in my experience, as long as you have a good history with them, they wouldn't have a problem upping your limit by a few thousand.

Some airlines allow you to put a reservation on hold or lock in a fare for 1,3,5,7 days for a fee. Have you looked into this?

And, of course, there's always Hotwire's "opaque" fares, and the name-your-own-price (bidding) option on Priceline.
