To Spain and Ibiza and back to LA
 

Hi!

I'm looking to go to Spain on Jun 13 off to Ibiza on June 16 and then back home on the 20th to LA. Currently considering just doing a roundtrip to either Madrid or Ibiza and book the other flights separately.

Am I right to think I should do the US Airways / AA cards to get 50k on each is the best way to go?

US airways is telling me I have to use the same amount of miles for a roundtrip with them? Even if I want just a 1 way biz class?

Is there a better way to do this through UR or something?

Are SAAver seats currently available for your desired travel dates? Will they be available once you get your miles?

What US Airways is telling is correctly, but largely irrelevant: USDM are expected to be converted to AA miles very shortly.

Both AA miles and UA miles can be used for one-way awards. ;)

Yes, under the old US program, you are unable to book one way awards. Even though UA/AA are now one company, the old US rules apply until the two FF programs merge. These programs will be merging within the next 30 days.

It is a pretty easy way to get 100k miles provided you are approved for both cards, and you satisfy their initial requirements in order to get the bonus miles.

You are looking fairly late for booking travel to Europe in the summer. Any availability you see now is unlikely to remain by the time you get the cards, make the necessary purchases, and have the points posted. (if they post at all before June)

Here's the deal: the US card, you need to have one spend and pay that and the $89 iirc card fee to get your miles; for the AA card, it's something like $99 (waived first Year?) and a $4,000 spend (within three months) to get your miles.

Will an AA award (two one way awards, which is how it's likely going to be by thevtime you get your miles) be available at a MileSAAver level award on the specific dates you want? Color me very skeptical.

It'd be nice if you could find a seat on one of Iberia's 4x weekly LAX-MAD flights connecting to Ibiza, but I'm guessing that'll be unlikely as late as you are with your credit card and travel plans.
