You can easily check award availability on UA and its Star Alliance partners at united.com. (And Chase UR points transfer to UA.) For AA, travel via the Atlantic would cost either 40K miles (if you connect or stop over in Europe), and 45K (if you don't). The aa.com website would show availability on AA/AY/BA, but flights on BA are best avoided because of high surcharges. Better to call AA, and ask about availability on EY or EY/9W LAX-AUH-DEL; LAX-LHR-DEL on AA/9W; or LAX-YYZ-DEL on AA/9W. If you want to travel via the Pacific with AA miles, you'd have to redeem for two awards: North America to Asia, and Asia to India. The cheapest routing would be LAX-NRT-DEL on JL for 47.5K miles. (I think UA will let you travel via the Pacific on one award.) If you do not have elite status with AA or UA, expect to pay a $75 close-in award-booking fee (if award seats can be found). |
