Code share baggage check through?

Quick question I think I know the answer to but want to check with all the knowledgeable folk here!

We are flying Toronto to LAX to Maui. We clear customs then check bags in Toronto. I assume having already cleared customs when we check bags that we can check them all the way through (like a domestic flight) but not 100% sure because it is a codeshare Air Canada-United. Are code share bags generally checked all the way through?
