Best way to spend miles: Germany >Thailand

I'm going from Germany (preferably Berlin or Munich airport) to Thailand mid-October.

Ultimate Reward Points: 165,213
US Airways: 54,089
AAdvantage: 53,789

I don't want to use my UR points if I don't have to (trying to save them for a bigger trip).

Any ideas on best way to spend the miles (and without major fees on top)? If UR Points are the best way to go, I'll still consider it.

AA charges 35K miles for a Coach one-way between Germany and Thailand, so you could use AA miles in one direction, and UA miles (converted from UR points) in the other.

The aa.com website will show you award availability -- if it exists -- on AB/AY/RJ, for which there are no surcharges. For CX and UL, you would have to call AA.

I see what you are saying, but there are only award seats available the first week in October and i need something later in the month (around the 20th).

Also, I only need flights one-way.

10/22 TXL-DOH-HKG-BKK arriving in BKK 10/24 at 12:05am. First two flights on QR, last on CX. Routing through Doha is allowed for Europe-Asia2 with AA miles. Personally I'd pay the 55K UA for the direct on TG, but your call.

How did you determine that there was no availability on CX/UL for your preferred dates? And what class of service are you seeking, Business or Economy?
