help for a noob?

Hello sorry if this is in the wrong spot but I'm looking for a little advice. My girlfriend and I live in Boston and were looking to do a trip to europe for 3 weeks and see maybe dublin, london, paris, barcelona, and maybe anywhere else in between if we can. This is where i get a little lost. Whats my best options to make it as efficent as possible regarding earning points. I just got approved for a jetblue card today which im excited about but i dont see much talk about jetblue when people talk racking up points. Any advice on best routes to see these places and gain points? Preferable airlines? Cheaper is better i dont mind taking economy flights, im in the military we dont make enough for me to fly like royalty! Thanks in advance guys

Jetblue points are earned per $ spent. Its not really a lucrative program when it comes to earning miles which is why most dont waste their time unless they are the best option for their travels.

Welcome to Flyertalk and thank you for your service.

As this is a more general inquiry about travel and points I've relocated it to the Information Desk forum from the Mileage Run Discussion forum and hope you find the answers your seeking.

Do you have tickets/hotels booked yet?

I'm in the military and can't afford to fly in luxury either, but thanks to FT I have learned how to do so!

Check out this blog, that has a military bent.

Welcome to FR, from one Service Member to another!;)

Welcome! No one can be of much help unless you are much more specific about your travel dates and about how many miles you have accumulated in the programs of the major airlines.

Thank you all for your inputs, my travel dates are mid july to early august and are a little flexivle (july 10-18 leaving - august 6-13 returning. I have minimal points saved up as i generally fly in the us and not too frequently. But im lookingto change that!

Good luck for your future travel. But it's almost certainly much too late to accumulate miles and book award travel to Europe in July/August 2014. Many award seats for summer travel to Europe are booked 10-11 months ahead of time, though it's always possible for seats to become available at the last minute.

+1 - OP, I was in a similar situation last year and it was disheartening to see how far in advance you need to have racked up enough miles/points for your trip. I cut it close in March for a trip in September!

If you want to plan a big trip like that with points/miles for next summer, this might be a good time to start checking your credit and planning to accumulate miles.

Thank you for your service, and good luck with your travels!

If I am reading the OP correctly he was not necessarily looking to spend points on this trip but he was looking for

... my best options to make it as efficent as possible regarding earning points.
I think he wants to make sure he earns points efficiently on revenue tickets. Though I could be wrong.

Snipe, travelingbear thank you. sorry im slow getting back to everynes responses. I'm going to go regardless but just looking for the way to make it as rewarding as possible for the future. We're pretty much going to buy 2 tickets and just see where we can get in 3 weeks. No planned hostels or anything yet. Can you say adventure? (or disaster)

I'm not sure what "rewarding as possible for the future" implies, but if you are looking to fly there as cheaply as possible, it might be worth it to check out the ITA Matrix: http://matrix.itasoftware.com/ (just keeping in mind that you'll have to go to a secondary site to actually purchase your tickets).
