Virgin (A340-600) or BA (A380) in Y+ to HKG?
 

Hi all,

Looking at a last minute weekend break this weekend to Hong Kong and i'm sitting here debating which to book.

What's stopping me is the Virgin option is around £300 cheaper than BA but I would get some good Avios & Tier points doing the BA option.

My question is quite simple, people that have flown both of the above which would would you choose and why?

Do you have any OneWorld status? Are you collecting Avios? If so, then BA is the correct choice if you value your Avios and TPs earned during this flight at 300GBP. Otherwise, the savings can be used for hotels and other expenses, and the VA flight is a better choice.

ITA is showing VS for ~900GBP RT from LHR to HKG this weekend, by the way. If BA is ~1200GBP I'd definitely fly VS and get the miles elsewhere!

You say Y+ for BA. Is this WT+? If its a better seat, might be worth the cost difference.

And if seeking Avios, how does CX price out?

Decided on a return in J class at the end of the month flying from AMS-LHR-HKG £1400 return a bargain I feel and the the bonus of better tier points & Avios.
