Best Mileage Plan/Credit Card for NYC
I just moved from Seattle to NYC. In Seattle, I used Alaska and had the credit card. It was great - I made Gold every year without trying because Alaska has a lot of partners with qualifying miles. And the companion ticket on the credit card was awesome. But now I'm in Seattle, and I'm looking for advice on which airline mileage plan/credit card combo would be best in New York. In terms of travel patterns, my parents live in the LA area (so will go there a couple times a year at least), I usually do a trip to SF, and a big trip to Europe in the summer. And now that I live in New York, will probably head down to the Caribbean as well.
Also, it appears that pretty much every airline has a status match challenge thing. Since I'm Gold on Alaska now, and I have some upcoming travel I haven't booked yet (a round-trip flight to Detroit in May and a multi-way flight NYC-LAX-IBZ-LON-HOU-NYC), I want to figure out which would be the best airline for that as well.
Thanks in advance for the advice!

Welcome to FT!
"But now I'm in Seattle". Umm, no you're not.
Both AA and DL have a big NYC presence, and both partner with AS, so you could continue to accrue with AS if you like. But AS status has only limited benefits on partner carriers. Of course, UA -- which is not an AS partner -- has a huge hub at EWR.
What benefits do you want from elite status? And what kind of redemptions (destinations, class of service) do you hope to make with your miles? Tell us a little more, and we can offer better advice.
