Pay close attention

I admit I'm a rookie, but just discovered something that could be easily overlooked by other rookies.

Just went to book a one way flight from London to Amsterdam using Avios. Total was going to be 9000 Avios and $219 (for two passengers). That wasn't adding up with what I was seeing in searching (Kayak.com).

So, instead of award travel, I simply searched flights normally on BA, and then chose to using Avios with cash. This actually ended up saving me almost $70 bucks.

So pay close attention and try different combinations before clicking submit/buy/purchase/book.

That flight is always about $100 or less one-way. Avios only make sense last-minute.

Also checking all LON airports instead of LHR usually makes the searches produce some great fares
