Why do I need a prospective post to be reviewed by a forum moderator?
 

Why do I need a prospective post to be approved by a moderator before it is embedded and listed in an existing thread? I started the thread the first day I registered on the forum and this would have been my fourth post (initial thread question + 3 responsive posts). Please advise. Do I require adult supervision, or is there a period where "training-wheels" are on for newbies?

There have been too many abusers. The review depends on which forum, as well.

Btw, what is the exclamation icon, which reads "Alert a moderator to this post" doing on each embedded post in my thread. Is that because I'm a newbie and a moderator needs to approve/allow the thread to continue, or has someone made a complaint to the moderator about my thread or subject-matter?

Nope. There is an "alert mod" icon on every post by everyone on FT.

Contact the forum mod via PM to speed up the process is also a good advice.

This is the likely reason. This can also happen if you reply to another member and quote their post in your reply--and their post contains a hyperlink.

Also, FlyerTalk has been hit by an increased wave of spam over the last few weeks, and so the admins have "dialed up" the aggressiveness of the filter that decides whether a moderator needs to approve your post, so even some posts that don't include hyperlinks are being filtered for approval by a moderator.

Don't worry; it'll go away pretty quickly for you. :)

The "alert a moderator" triangle is there for everyone to help the moderators. If you see a post that needs our attention--is off topic, rude, spam, etc.--just hit it and type a brief explanation and the mods will get an alert to take a peek at it. Sometimes, we can't read every post, so we rely on users like you to help us spot stuff that needs our attention. More on that here.

Maybe if it's not been approved in a few hours...but we already get an alert when a post is caught in the filter, so give us a chance to log in and deal with it. :)

Inasmuch as I registered with FT after the November 10 electoral cut-off date, I am ineligible for the FT online plebiscite. I have been disenfranchised by the circumstances. May the best candidates win.

Not quite sure how that's disenfranchisement, but at least FT doesn't require you to be a certain age and reside here for so many years before allowing you to run. ;)

Go for it next year! But hint: it helps if you work really hard at contributing around the forums and helping people with their questions. Hard to get elected otherwise. :)

No worries. I am using "disenfranchisement" loosely, simply based on circumstances and timing, which precluded me from voting. Nothing to do with FT. There's always the next election.
