How to get from Nizamuddin Station to DEL?

I am planning on arriving via train to Nizamuddin Station in Delhi. I need to get to the airport to catch a flight back to the US. How long will it take to get from the train station to the airport? Is there a prepaid taxi stand?

The other option is to take a train to Jaipur and fly from Jaipur, but I'd rather not do that since it wastes more of the day (and I'd have to catch the train at 10 AM instead of 1 PM).

I'm coming from Sawai Madhopur.

Thanks for advice!

What time of day?

The train from Sawai Madhopur gets in to Nizamuddin at 1840 or thereabouts.

There is a pre - paid booth as you come out of the station on your left.

All right, thanks! Either way, I should have tons of time.

Sorry, that's not enough time for travel. From Nizammuddin station, its about 35 km to the international airport. Assuming a regular weekday, you are looking at a minimum of 90 minutes. If you want to get a pre paid taxi and you assume your train will be on time (trains routinely run between 2-12 hours late this time of the year, thanks to the heavy fog blanketing the Delhi area - early January) - I would keep 2 hours as a minimum. Still, its India and honestly, you really cannot plan.

Flights to the US normally depart around midnight or later. I'd say, if this is the case, you are comfortable. But check a couple of things in advance
- does the train originate at Sawai Madhopur?
- can you get off one stop prior to Nizammuddin? If so, does this work out to be closer to the airport, bypassing Delhi traffic? (especially around South Extention and the Ring Road areas?)
- can you keep a back up rental car ready, to drop you to Delhi IGI airport?

Ah, thanks. I should have mentioned that my flight is 0015 on 10 March. A friend tells me that fog isn't a concern that time of the year, so I should be all right.

The train originates in Mumbai, I believe. It's #2903, the Golden Temple Mail.

No fog in March - but you're looking at the start of summer - which, in the rajasthan desert, and in delhi, will be fierce (40+ degrees centigrade in the shade, a hot wind called the "loo" that's a guarantee of heatstroke ..)

Take along plenty of salt pills, electrolytes etc .. really. If you're from Arizona you'd have some idea of the kind of weather in Delhi in march.

Your train can either be on time or up to 12 hours late. One never knows in India, with these long distance trains (the exceptions being the Rajdhani trains which are mostly on time.) I wish I had more comforting advice... sorry.

Shouldnt be that much of an issue and you can check train status realtime at www.indianrail.gov.in / www.irctc.co.in so if your bombay train is actually running late you should know several hours before.

Rental car as a backup is always an option.
