Travel within India

Looks like I'm going to be making five trips to India over the next four months. I'll be stopping in DEL-BOM-BLR on each trip. Please advise on which Airlines to use on this portion of my trips.

In alphabetical order, Jet Airways and Kingfisher are the leaders service-wise.

Jet Airways flights can be credited to NW's program.

I'll second 9W (Jet Airways)

Some others are Kingfisher, Air Deccan, GOindia, Indian. Watch out for fog delays for the smaller carriers.

I flew both Kingfisher (BOM-Goa) and Jet (Goa-BOM and BOM-Jaipur) last month and strongly recommend Kingfisher. Decent legroom, nice planes, friendly crew, got a full meal and an amenity kit on an hour flight. Seatback video with lots of options, including Bourdain's "Without Reservations."

Jet planes were older, had less legroom (be sure to ask for an exit row if you do fly them), no IFE, and was generally a poorer experience.

On the other hand, you can credit Jet mileage to NW and possibly LH, so it all depends on your priorities...

Hi - You should look at Kingfisher as the first option followed by Jet. Ask for the exit row seats...fly safe

If schedule is important, you can choose the discount airlines too.
They are good too. I like Spice Jet better among the discount airlines.

Here is a list: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...lines_in_India

Just avoid some low cost ones in/out of DEL during foggy winter days.
They are subject to major delays.....

I have flown Kingfisher, BLR-BOM and BLR-DEL Always excellent service, decent food, and always an exit row.

I have not flown with anyone else within india after my first flight with them.

Our people in India are now recommending Kingfisher over Jet, and Jet over all others.

mikey2007 Jan 14, 2007 3:26 pm

I'd agree. Kingfisher over Jet, and then Jet over everyone else.

Kingfisher then Jet for service. Spicejet for LCCs. I would avoid Indian (bad service in my experience) and Air Deccan (lots of delays from what I hear).

The third choice in Full Service is Sahara--it is not bad either--comparable with Jet in my experience.

Kingfisher has newer and better aircraft better leg room than Jet...BUT.... they don't accept international credit cards ONLINE...you have to go to their counter to use your international credit card. Jet and Indian Airlines accept them online. Same is the problems with several other airlines too.

I would say use the airlines which has most convenient times for your needs. If it is your money...I would try to get most bang for my buck and if you are on business use most convenient flights and don't look at the price tag. BTW many a times on other discounted airlines you can get the same flight much uch cheaper.

Examples Chennai BLR was available for Rs. 200 (!!), whereas I paid Rs. 3000 to JET. For Chennai-Pune via BLR, I paid Kingfisher around Rs 10,000 where as Jet was around Rs. 5000. Pune -BLR was available for Rs. 850 and I paid Rs. 4000 for Kingfisher. (1$ = Rs. 45 approx.)

As for the delays, it has nothing to do with the airlines. Any flight that originates (in morning around 6:00AM) from Delhi / north India invaribaly gets delayed due to fog and that affects all the subsequent routes that this aircraft flies to (same happens with Southwest too). SO MAKE SURE to check if your flight is originating from Delhi, Lucknow etc (North India) and avoid those flights even with Kingfisher and Jet.

I had no problem purchasing from the US online about two months ago.

Do Jet or Kingfisher charge for checking skis?
