Bangalore in August

Hello People,

I will be spending a week in Bangalore on business in late August, and was after some advice re after work activities.

Being a "typical" Australian, consumption of beer is a priority, so if there are any ideas out there let me know.

Also, not being a fan of Indian food, is there any advice re eating out during my stay?

Thanks

GB

Sunny's off Lavelle Road in Bangalore makes good (real) Italian food.

Beer should be available in plenty in most pubs in Bangalore. Though, these are not the quiet British Pubs. Mostly Kingfisher, but then I haven't drunk beer in a while in Bangalore.

I'm also going to be there in Aug. Going for 3 nights. Get in Aug 13th at some silly time of 03:00.

Can you advise of any half decent hotels in the area that are not over priced? Im back packing around Asia and am staying in hostels all through out. However, I'm thinking that in Bangalore they only have hotels.

Any security tips or health tips I should know?

Cheers

There are a few pretty hip lounges in the Bangalore that are popping up. Alot of them also serve good non-Indian food (mostly fried). Contact me if you want the names of them--can't think of them offhand :)
Kingfisher is the beer of choice in Bangalore, and I actually grew quite attached to it!
If you're staying at a good hotel, the hotel will have some good non-Indian options as well.

Bangalore has plenty of pubs and bear shouldn't be a problems at all. I don't drink but my friends always rave about Kingfisher....so try that but there are other brands too.

Bangalore is a very safe city but I still wouldn't rcommend a person of non-indian origin to be out alone late in the night in any India city. If you are planning to be out late, get a reliable taxi from your hotel and keep him with you till you get back. Pay for his dinner and give him good tip and he will happy to go out of the way to take your around.

South Indian and north India foods are the most popular food but there are number of places that serve multinational cuisine like Chinese, Thai, Italian, French etc....look for a place in your hotel directory. I too recommend Sunny's been there once great and quite place.

For SgtRyan..there are plenty of hotels and lodges in Bangalore. You can get a decent hotel for $50-70 near MG road. Check this link out http://www.karnataka.com/tourism/bangalore/hotels.shtml .
(1US $ is about Rs40-42 these days)
If you move out a little you may get cheaper options. I forgot the name but there is lodge near the intersection of MG Road and Brigade Road (great locations) that is quite inexpensive. Can't say how clean it will be because I never stayed there. 4 years back it was $20-30 per night. But great location.
