Thank you! One more question - generally all the labs in Ludhiana (where we will be quarantining) mention it can take 24-48 hours to receive results from a RT-PCR test. Does this mean we need to quarantine another 1-2 days after day 8 while we wait for test results?

You could get a rapid PCR test which gives results within an hour. Not a rapid antigen test, a rapid PCR test. It's more expensive that regular PCR though.

Not sure, but I doubt there are labs in India that do rapid tests. However, you can buy Rapid Tests and take the test yourself for your own peace of mind.

And at most (big) medical stores as well. I've used Coviself and it's fairly straight forward although they make you download an app for verification...only thing is to make sure you have a safe way of disposing it after use. The instruction leaflet instructs to dispose with household waste which is incorrect - it should be disposed with sanitary waste instead.

I plan to fly into CCU later this month and was concerned to find this on a government site (especially #3 below):
In any case we were planning to spend only about 4 days in CCU and then move elsewhere in India. I understand I am perhaps getting a little paranoid here, but I certainly do not want to spend even 1 hour in one of these places, let alone seven days! Short of cancelling the trip altogether, what would the India experts on this forum suggest? |
You stay in the same hotel room, no problem. The WB authorities are currently not checking the home q. Make sure you give an adress you can be found at and a number you can be reached at when filing the air suvidha form.
