How to re-unite with my wife in India?
Hello,
I'm a US citizen trapped in the USA. I have been waiting 9 months to return to my wife in India.
edit: actually she's not my wife, but I call her my wife, and she calls me her husband, and we both wear rings.
Indian e-Visas and Tourist visas are not available.
So far, an employment visa has not been offered to me.
Emergency Visas are only applicable to Indian Nationals.
I'm running out of time and options here.
What do I do?
I just want to be with her.
Any ideas?
- Thanks

Visas by definition don't apply to nationals of the country involved, so I'm not sure what you mean with regard to emergency visas. You would be able to apply for an emergency visa, except that they're supposed to be for emergencies, e.g., illness or death in the family, and I'm not sure the consulate or embassy would consider issuing you one just because you are separated from your wife. You could (should) try, though, by calling the mission and asking. Doesn't hurt.
Other possibilities are to apply for an OCI card since you are married to an Indian national (I assume, although you did not state that), or an X or entry visa on the same basis. The processing time for an OCI is probably on the order of a couple of months, though.

OP - What is your wife's nationality and residence status (beyond the obvious that she is physically located in India)?
Might she come to the US? As the spouse of a US national, she has an exemption from the general admissibility ban.

Hey thanks for the replies.
Yes, she's an Indian national, however we're not actually married in any legal sense. I can't imagine how the consulate/embassy will view that.
Though I didn't know about the OCI card - in the future I will certainly apply for that. I'm planning on just moving there anyway, becoming a citizen somehow.
Also, you're right, it wouldn't hurt to ask for an emergency visa. Maybe they will give it.

No harm in trying for the X-visa, but keep in mind that you will usually be asked to show some proof of the marriage (certificate, name on each other's passport, etc). See 4(ii)(f) here: https://www.indianembassyusa.gov.in/extra?id=79

Can't she join you in the USA? She might be eligible for a fiancée visa following which you both can formally get the paperwork done. US consulates are issuing K-visas now.

Again, Indian missions will issue a visa if you apply for it. Have you even tried that? Far smaller effort than trying to swim the straight between India and SL

first the op claims he is married, then says he is not really married, then says they exchanged rings, then wants to be with his jivansaathi, then wants to take a boat from sri lanka to india....
sounds more like someone trolling than wanting genuine information on how to re-unite with their 'wife' in india....
