Passport validity to enter India

Hello

Can my son travel to India with only 2.5 months left on his USA passport. Traveling plan is for 12/19/2018 and return January 24 2019. USA passport expires 02/24/2019 and India visa expires in 2024. Will Indian immigration deny entry even if he is departing before the passport expiry date?

Thanks in Advance

Vishal

Indian tourist visas typically allow up to 6 months per stay, so that's why your passport should have at least 6 months before expiration at the time of entering the country. They will definitely ask for proof of return travel, but I feel they might still deny him at their discretion.

There is expedited passport renewal that you can pay a little more to have it done within a month. https://travel.state.gov/content/tra...ort/hurry.html

Oh, I misread and thought there was 2.5 months until travel. It's a gamble then at this point and be ready to explain to immigration officer if they notice it. Worst case they send him back on the next flight and there's not much you can do.

I'm not sure why he would need his mother to renew since you are parent as well.

I just performed a check on the TIMATIC database (specifically, UA), it says:

"Passports and other documents accepted for entry must be valid for the period of intended stay."

So with a Jan return ticket he should be OK.

This seems to be about the same question as yesterday:--> https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/luft...rt-issues.html
Asking the question will not get a different answer. Anyway people on FT do make these decisions.

When I added ZRH as transit:

Switzerland - Transit Passport
Passport required.

Document validity rules:

Passports and other documents accepted for entry must be valid for a minimum of 3 months beyond the period of intended stay.

Type: Critical
Switzerland - Transit Visa
Visa not required.

Important:

Passengers in transit must hold passports or other documents accepted to enter Switzerland.

it will be at the immigration officer's discretion & is definitely a risk....
