Need help in booking round trip tickets from JFK/EWR to Chennai, India

Hi All,

I am planning a round trip to Chennai, India with my family (2 adults / 2 child (age 5 and age 3) from either JFK(NewYork) or EWR(Newark) airport depending on the cheapest available fare on Jan 4 2019 (Friday) or Jan 5 2019(Saturday). Considering it is the peak holiday season of Christmas/NewYear, would like to know if I need to book right now or wait a few more weeks to get the cheapest round trip fare.

Please Note : I am looking at 1 stop and want a transit outside India. Looking to book in one of Emirates/Etihad/Lufthansa/Qatar or British Airways.

Appreciate any suggestions / recommendations.

its unlikely that the fares will reduce closer to your flight date....i would suggest the earlier you book the better....

Agree with Keyser - The fare is unlikely to come down. I would pick based on dept and arrival time and layover time. I wouldn't discount a transfer in DEL or BOM if that is much quicker, cheaper, better flight times. Tansfers in India are just as easy as in the Middle East - if not easier.

With the exception of LH I've taken all the other carriers numerous times and I prefer BA as the arrival time is around when one wakes up whereas the others arrive around after midnight. In addition with the BA flights you have a longer time to sleep on the arrival flight into MAA while the others from the Middle East are shorter flights where you'll get less sleep time. I also prefer the BA morning return flight times.
