Is the Indrail pass really gone?

In searching India rail passes I saw a couple of blogger articles indicating that India Railways was discontinuing the Indrail pass at the end of 2017. I can find nothing official on the net. Is it really gone or were the articles based on rumors?

i believe these still exist but i never found them to be of good value....individual point to point fares are the same value or cheaper & the biggest problem is availability....just having this pass does not guarantee availability on the train which is often the biggest problem with train journeys in india....

I believe they're gone, but you can confirm with one of the overseas agents that used to sell them.

It's very much worth your while to open an IRCTC account so you can make bookings online. It's India, so the process is a hassle, but then lining up at the station ticket window is far more a hassle. Note carefully all the rules, including a limit if six journeys booked per calendar month.

No need to find a printer: the emailed ticket on your phone is enough.
