Transit at MAA

Hello, I need some information. I arrive at Chennai International Terminal in India with an Air Austral flight from Reunion island. I have to recover my baggage and check in them again a few hours later on a Srilankan Airlines flight to Colombo at Sri Lanka. Do I stay in the transit zone or do I need a visa?

Answers and advice very appreciated.

if you have to collect your bags & check them in again then i assume you are on two separate tickets....if so then you will require a visa....

I unsuccessfully transited without checked bags trying to go from Etihad to Air India through MAA to Columbo. missed flight, had to stay in the transit area all day and purchase a new ticket. MAA is not equipped to handle transit.

You would definitely need a visa.
