Bringing Testing Equipment to India

I may need to travel to Pune, India in the April-May time frame and I need to bring some testing equipment with me.
I was told I needed to visit the website EAR (Export Administration Regulations). My company may need special permission when bringing certain types of equipment into India.

I'm bringing measuring equipment and data acquisition instruments like accelerometer, thermocouples, pressure measuring devices, etc.

Does anyone have any experience with these type of equipment getting into India?

would any of this equipment have military applications as well????

The EAR mainly relates to the fact that you declare the goods you are importing for a short while so you can bring them in duty free for the trip. If you don't fulfill the conditions upfront you will be asked to pay duty on arrival and then have to reclaim it on exporting them. This pay duty and reclaim sounds rather innocent upfront, but you usually run into severe value assessment issues on arrival and of course major major refund claim complications after departure.

I have been here before and came off in a not nice situation so be very very careful however this was in the UK. Are there Export Licences required for any of the items? If so you would need to obtain clearance prior to departing or have a nasty welcome on arrival back in the USA and it will be both the companies fault and yours.

If nothing is covered by the above then in the old days it use to be an ATA Carnet was all that was required if it can be obtained.

i wrote a message to the India consulate here in ATL asking about this but i have not heard back from them.
