Which Bangalore hotel?
We will be in Bangalore next month - want to stay near shopping/restaurants. Traveling there with parents, and even though we will have car/driver with us, I still want to not travel long distances if we want to go out.
Considering Leela, but then got recommendations such as Vivanta West End and Hyatt. Any suggestions? Thanks, D |
Just checked out of Ritz-Carlton yesterday and can't recommend it enough if you can fit it in. Located in a great area, with lots of good rated restaurants and UB city nearby for retail shopping. The service at this property is one of the best I've ever received and I can highly vouch for their Club Lounge.

Keyser - no particular area...would like to be near the central part of the city. Not near the business locations. Not going on business, so want to stay near where we can pop in shops/malls etc.

Stayed at the Sheraton Grande, and that was an excellent decision. Great hotel, staff one of the best I have encountered. We got upgraded to the executive suite which is like an apartment, with gorgeous views. The Orion Mall was right next door, and a bunch of restaurants.

Hanging my issue in here - will be in Bangalore next month for the first time on Business which is located in the Whitefield area, but have an additional day after business on my own before returning home.
Would prefer a full-service hotel from either Marriott or Starwood that has a Club lounge, so I am currently torn between the Marriott Whitefield which is the closest hotel to where I need to be for business and the Sheraton Grand which is probably an hour's drive to my business location, but certainly closer to the city as I understand. Anybody has an suggestion which place to choose from? My current preference is the Sheraton as I still need two SPG-nights to re-qualify my P75 status for 2017, yet I am somewhat worried that the traffic in the morning will rip my day apart. And given I arrive after midnight after traveling all day and need to be in the office by 9:45 in the next morning I guess that extra hour of commute would be quite detrimental. As an alternative I could stay at the Aloft Whitefield which is also reasonably close to the office, but then that does not even seem to have a full restaurant, let alone a club lounge. So, with these parameters, any suggestion which hotel to choose from? Thanks in advance for your suggestions! Regards, Dirk P.S.: I have been reading that the taxes to be paid are calculated on some unknown to me "registered rate" of the actual room I receive and not by the rate I pay on my company rate - is that actually correct? If so, how can I find out what the actual cost of my room is that the tax is calculated on? |

Service was fine, as was food. The grounds are nice. I really liked the pool area. Location pretty good as well (if you stay there, then go to nearby Konark for GREAT food, though it is vegetarian). There is a beer bar next door as well, beers not great but doable and a nice setting. I've stayed at the Oberoi years ago when it was well maintained but rooms a bit dated. The grounds in the middle were lovely and great to sit in chairs on the lawn and have tea/coffee. My parents and I have also stayed at ITC Gardenia, though 3-4 years ago and really liked the setting and rooms there. Enjoy BLR! Also if you have time, its a great place to buy books (try walking along MG Road and there is a small complex full of craft shops and in that is a cute bookstore - they also have a big outlet off of Brigade Road as well). |

Parts of the plastic/linoleum floor at the multicuisine/buffet restaurant and in guestrooms seem to be supported by pockets of air, so that when you step on them, the floor seemingly divots/depresses.

We stayed on the sixth floor where a seemingly larger painting/artwork was previously and had scraped up the wall. The newer art, isn't big enough to cover it so there is some wall space when stepping outside of the elevator that has scrapped paint and looks bad. Cracks in the bathroom where tile meets wall. My thinking is that the owner maybe skimped on construction/maintenance.

the luxury tax is based on the rack rate....not just the rack rate of the room you have booked but the rack rate of the room you will be upgraded to (if you choose to take the upgrade)....you will have to get in touch with the property to find out what the rack rate is....
As per the mail below we would like to inform you that the taxes in karnataka is on to the actual rate. Regards, Dirk |

Just for reference, will be interesting if this statement holds up against the consolidated wisdom here...this is what I got from the Aloft in terms of taxes:
We will see how things will go once I check out... Regards, Dirk |
Hilton has a flash sale right now.
Forget the hyatt. All reviews rank it as the worst hyatt in the world for a reason. RC is very good for center of town. CY marriott has amazing service. Its actually a flagship CY marriott hotel for Asia. Holiday Inn is not very busy. Some staff are great, other should be fired as their incompetence is the cause of customer dissatisfaction. If you go here PM me and I'll tell you which staff to serve you so you have a good experience. Very likely to get a suite upgrade if you have status here. |
