Was thinking bag interlined all the way from LHR. It doesn't work if BA won't interline to UL (but they should right?)

After considering what all of you have said (and asking Penny Pig's opinion ) we have decided to spend one night in Chennai and get visas. It just makes life easier and less stressful in the long run I think.

Had I been travelling alone I think I would have risked it.

Thanks so much to you all

They do have facilities for that in India (at least Delhi) where they accompany you to point out your luggage and re-check before taking you back into the secure zone.

Visa is best in any case.
