Flight transfer in Mumbai - transit visa needed?
 

Hi all,

I have seen similar questions posted however for my own peace of mind I would like to ask about my specific situation!

Currently I have return flights from London to Mumbai. My plans have changed and I will no longer be spending any time in India, and will be in Nepal for my entire trip.

I would like to buy return flights from Mumbai to Kathmandu, which leave from the same Mumbai International terminal as the one I will be flying to and from London.

My inbound flight lands in Mumbai at 21.40 and the flight to Kathmandu would leave at 08.20 the following morning. Ideally I would like to avoid having to get a transit visa. The return flight would land in Mumbai at 17.30 and my flight to London leave at 00.20.

Am I able to check-in for my new Mumbai-Kathmandu flight (and then Mumbai-London on the way home) without going through immigration, and also have my luggage transferred to the next flight? I have read things about the International Transfers desk at Mumbai Arrivals, however I'm wondering if they are also able to manage my bags?

If you buy a separate BOM-KTM ticket its very likely the LHR-BOM carrier will not tag your luggage to the final destination. So an airside visa free transit is impossible and (if you are a UK/GB citizen) you have apply for a transit visa in advance.

which airline????if its the same airline on both legs then it may be possible, even though you are on separate tickets....if not then its unlikely that the different airlines will tag your luggage all the way to your final destination....

What if one is traveling with carry ons only? Still need a visa?
