Uber banned in New Delhi after rape case

.... Isn't this India's own problem rather than Uber's? I am so :( to see Uber have gone unavailable in New Delhi, where I believe I need it the most on this planet.

NO

Chicago has one on its hands. Remember, most rape and attempted rapes go unreported.
earlier I started a new thread.....Is Über Safe ?

I believe this is a knee jerk reaction by authorities banning Uber in Delhi and Hyderabad. If my memory serves me right a few years ago a woman was raped in a public bus in Delhi but authorities did not ban buses. The woman eventually died because of the severe beating she received.

Unfortunately reported incidents of rape in India are increasing at an alarming rate.

Here is a related FT thread on the subject.

My point was since Über is fairly new concept, people may need to know and express experiences and opinions .

Makes a lot of sense. Taxis are somehow less subject to this phenomenon. Also Delhi has this problem, not other cities. So we'd better ban Uber in Delhi.
