Taking gold jewelry to India
 

A friend is going to India to attend a marriage. Does anyone know if there will be any issues for her to take gold jewelry in and then coming back with it. She is an NRI (US passport).

I doubt it unless it's an excessive amount. I've never had my bags checked on 16 trips to India (on the Indian side). If she owns the jewelry before she leaves the US then US Customs can't reasonably assume she's importing it from India. Indians are often covered in gold when they travel so it's not unusual.

if she has no plans on leaving it in india then i suggest she declare it that she is bringing it in for personal use & will take it back with her....they make a note of it & will inspect it on her way back to make sure she hasn't left anything behind....if all is well then she will have no problems....
