Question about Bhutan

Hi:
I am wondering if it is possible to enter Bhutan as a OCI (Overseas Citizen of India) with documents and US passport to avoid the minimum daily spend requirements imposed on non-US citizens? If this is not the right place, mods please move as appropriate. Thanks in advance.

Nope you will not avoid the minimum spending requirements. Coming in with a US passport basically means you're going to be treated like you every other US citizen. If you really want to avoid the minimum spending requirments you should use you Indian passport or have a some kind of a voter registration card.

OCI is not a citizenship... you are still considered a US citizen. I avoid Bhutan because of this and the fact that independent travel is not allowed. But people who visit still tell me it's a nice trip...

The "minimum spend" covers all of your food, lodging, driver, guide, car, etc. So it's actually not a bad deal, especially for solo travelers.

Well, the OCI says I am an Overseas CITIZEN of India, hence the query. I posted to see if there were any actual experiences.

You might want to just contact one of the Bhutan based tour agents or their government tourism department and ask them for a definitive answer to this question.

A few yrs ago I heard a great story on NPR about the minimum spend. I dont think 250$ per day is bad but others may differ.

What i like is the comment vs nepal "Some Bhutanese look at what they see as Nepal's pot-smoking, penny-pinching backpackers, and chaotic tourist quarter, and say that's exactly what they don't want. "
