what to expect during Divali in India
I will be in India for the first couple of weeks of November. Just found out that Divali will be happening during that time. What should I expect? Will everything be closed for a few days?
I've heard about fireworks going off all the time and people giving sweets to friends. |
Where will you be? Some areas celebrate differently or with more fervor than others. Mumbai empties out for the most part. Most things are closed and Indians celebrate most holidays with crackers. It's a family-oriented holiday, so a lot of people go to their native places and/or stay indoors until the evening when they go out to blow up their own little chunk of the country. Of course, in a city of 25 million people, you're always going to have some out on the streets or trying to earn a rupee by staying open.

its one of the more popular festivals in india....its a national holiday but none of the shops or restaurants will be closed in the larger cities....fireworks carry on for a couple of days in the evening....

I had planned to be in Pune, but recently have been invited to come to Jaipur. Is it worth the trip to Jaipur to see the lights?
