ayurvedic massage in Delhi?
 

Title says it all. I've had ayurvedic massages in India before and they were fantastic. Any recommendations for Delhi?

I'm not looking for an expensive posh spa experience, just a really good ayurvedic massage.

my cousin recently got one of these massages when she was visiting earlier this year....i think the place she went to was the kerela ayurvedic center....she said the ambiance was so-so but the massage was good....

otherwise you could try the westin in gurgaon....my wife regularly goes there for spa treatments....while she has never had the ayurvedic massage there, she says they do offer it....

Thanks! Ambience isn't so important (as long as the place is clean, of course). The ayurvedic massages I've had before were my favorite style of massage (and right after many long hours flying coach is one of the best times for a massage).

The Amatra Spa at the Ashoka hotel in Delhi usually gets rave views from my expat buddies. I quite enjoyed it too. They also offer the whole Ayurveda treatment menu

P.S. Not that cheap, and often better to book in advance as they can get very busy.

Ah, better yet. Cheap is relative - ayurvedic is my favorite form of massage and I can't get it at home at any price.

90 minutes with two masseuses for 5500r - I'd have to pay almost that much for a single masseuse for 50 minutes here at home. Thanks!

I agree. Just wanted to be careful here as you never know, you might have come back screaming that the cost of the massage was more than what the hotel housekeep earned in a week! :o ;)

Anyways, I am sure you will enjoy it. I really enjoyed the multiple treatments I have had there. Albeit only Balinese, Aromatherapy, Swedish etc and not Ayurvedic. The ambience and the tranquility factor does so much for a spa. And in that aspect, this is certainly one of the better ones in Delhi.

Thanks! I don't know what my exact itinerary will be, but I am going to make future trips to the Indian Himalayas (this upcoming trip will only get to Ladakh).

Re: the prices. I'm in the middle. I don't mind a relatively spartan experience (the $4 blind massages in Cambodia) if it's clean, safe area, no sleaze, and a great massage. I don't generally go to multi-star spas because I'm generally interested in just the massage (although I made an exception in Antananarivo and it was well worth it).

In BKK, I pay rates that are a bargain by US standards, but far from the cheapest basic Thai massage, but that's largely because I take advantage of the price differences to splurge on the services I get, instead of just going for the bottom line (3.5 hours for three 'sessions' back-to-back for $90, for example).

I found a couple DEL ayurvedic massage sites, but they only offered to take bookings, no prices mentioned. I generally avoid any site that won't post prices (or a reasonable idea) up front - it's a waste of their time and mine if they are completely out of my range.

Anyway, I'm also glad you posted relative information about prices, because someone neither of us knows may come to this thread in the future and benefit from your great posts!
